Suicide Prevention Month and Promoting Workplace Mental Health

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Sept. 8-12 is Construction Suicide Prevention Week and today, Sept.10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. A new video message from Deputy Secretary of Labor, Keith Sonderling, and new blog post from OSHA’s Acting Assistant Secretary, Amanda Wood Laihow, emphasize the importance of providing employers and workers with tools and resources to address workplace stress, promote mental wellness and reduce the risk of suicide. They also recognize the disproportionate impact of suicide in industries such as construction, which has one of the highest suicide rates of any occupation.
