Safety Matters: National Demolition Association & OSHA 2026 Initiatives
January 30, 2026
At the National Demolition Association (NDA), our commitment to the safety of our workforce is the cornerstone of everything we do. As we navigate the complex challenges of the demolition industry — from structural instability to environmental hazards — staying aligned with OSHA’s National Safety Initiatives ensures that every worker returns home safely at the end of the shift.
Below are the key 2026 campaigns and resources every member should integrate into their safety programs this year.
🏗️Fall Prevention: Plan, Provide, Train
Falls remain a leading cause of fatalities in construction and demolition. OSHA’s ongoing campaign focuses on three simple steps: plan ahead to get the job done safely, provide the right equipment, and train everyone to use it properly.
☀️ Heat Illness Prevention: Water, Rest, Shade
As we move from early spring into the warmer months, the risk of heat-related injuries increases significantly — both for outdoor site work and indoor selective demolition.
- Campaign Focus: Education on "Water, Rest, and Shade" and the importance of acclimatization for new and returning workers.
- Action: Download the OSHA-NIOSH Heat Safety Tool app to monitor the heat index at your specific job site.

🔊 Safe + Sound: Workplace Health Programs
A safe job site isn't just about avoiding accidents; it’s about a proactive culture. The Safe + Sound campaign encourages every workplace to implement a formal safety and health program.
🧠 Mental Health & Suicide Prevention
The construction and demolition industries face disproportionately high rates of suicide. OSHA is committed to removing the stigma of mental illness and promoting resources for work-related stress.
- Construction Suicide Prevention Week: September 14–18, 2026
- Key Dates: Mental Health Awareness Month (May) & Suicide Prevention Month (September).
- Action: Promote the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline on your job sites and in your breakrooms.
