December 11, 2024
NDA mourns the passing of industry titan Jon Manafort. Manafort was the 2020 recipient of the NDA Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a leader of Manafort Brothers Inc. and exemplified dedication, vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence. His leadership and integrity not only shaped Manafort Brothers Inc. into a cornerstone of our industry but also left an indelible mark on the community and everyone who had the privilege to work alongside him.
Born in New Britain, Connecticut, Manafort was a 1965 graduate of James Hillhouse High School and a U.S. Army veteran. Alongside his late brother, Jim, and cousin, Frank, he became the third generation to join the family business, New Britain Wrecking Company, expanding it into a multifaceted enterprise. His vision and problem-solving skills helped transform the company into a national leader in demolition, site work, environmental remediation, and nuclear decommissioning, with major projects like Connecticut casinos, Hartford implosions, and contributions to the 9/11 cleanup efforts.
Manafort also founded Connecticut Waste Processing, now CWPM, a major multistate waste removal company, and owned Island Cove Marina and Lady Katharine Cruises. Beyond business, he enjoyed NASCAR racing, boating, puzzles, and family time. He actively supported causes like the Kyle Petty Charity Ride, Victory Junction Camp, and numerous local organizations through the Manafort Family Foundation, which has donated over $2 million.
A recipient of the National Demolition Association Lifetime Achievement Award, Manafort was known for his generosity, humor, and love for family and community. His July 4th celebrations aboard his yacht on Block Island with his wife of 55 years, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren were a cherished tradition.
He is survived by his wife, sons Jason and Justin, daughters-in-law Sandra and Tabitha, grandchildren, and many beloved relatives and friends.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Church, New Britain, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Inc., 10720 Sikes Place, Suite 145, Charlotte, NC, 28277. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Learn more.
