GSA Accuses Congress of Hijacking Its Building Repair Fund

The General Services Administration says Congress has diverted the equivalent of $22 billion from its building repair fund since 2011, contributing to a maintenance backlog now estimated at up to $50 billion. As a result, nearly half of the agency’s 1,600 properties are in fair or poor condition, with critical upgrades delayed across its portfolio. GSA is now pushing for full access to its funds and fewer approval hurdles to address growing infrastructure needs.
