USC Research Team Is Looking for Participants for an Advisory Panel
December 01, 2022
Are you a machine operator, site manager or construction company administrator involved in demolition services? The Innovation in Integrated Informatics (i-LAB) at the University of Southern California (USC) is looking for participants for an advisory panel starting in February 2023. The members of the panel are expected to attend quarterly two-hour Zoom (virtual) meetings to help the research team identify the key features to be included in a teleoperation workstation for a demolition robot. In each meeting, the research team will show potential features of the workstation (e.g., different types of screens and control boxes) to the panel members and ask for their feedback on the relevance of these features for the workstation. The project is expected to last four years. Participants will receive $150/hour up to $1,500/year in appreciation of their time and participation in the panel meetings. If this is something you or others at your company would be interested in, or if you have any questions, email Patrick Borges Rodrigues at borgesro@usc.edu.
Stakeholder Advisory Panel
In order to broaden our understanding of the relationship between specific sensory feedback requirements and different complexities of construction tasks, we will have a stakeholder advisory panel consisting of six members with experience in the construction industry, specifically as an operator, site manager, and construction company administrator.
The panel will provide valuable input related to worker sensory preferences, interface design, operator safety and health, and real-world implementation to assist the research team with evaluating and adapting the workstation (see general timeline figure below). We aim to identify the benefits and challenges associated with using a teleoperation workstation compared with traditional construction work and hope to improve workers' performance, safety behavior and trust in automation in the future.
As a panel member, you will:
- Attend quarterly two-hour meetings throughout the length of project (up to four years).
- Provide ad-hoc guidance to the research team.
- Receive $150/hour for your contributions up to a maximum of $1,500/year.
